I recently attended an art gallery on Thursday, July 30th, at the Public Functionary.

It was the MN4MN Blank Canvas Exhibit where 13 pairs of shoes were given to 13 artists and 13 photographers. The first stage had artists taking the shoes and doing with them as they wished: deconstruct them, paint them, etc. Then the shoes were given to photographers who were told make another piece of art out of it.

#mn4mnblankcanvas probably one of my favorites.

All 26 works were put on display and available for purchase. Prices were mostly higher than my student loan payments, but the work was really cool. It was very easy to tell that all the artists come from very different backgrounds, and drew from different places when it came to inspiration.

The vibe itself was pretty cool. The dress code was definitely a come as you are type thing, but most did dress to impress. There’s was a DJ spinning hip-hop, old school to current hits, as well as a small bar in the corner selling various drinks.

While I’m still new to the art world, it was a great introduction. I look forward to the next one.
